British Grand Prix History
Few sporting occasions match the intensity, glamour and drama of the British Grand Prix. One of the most historic circuits on the F1 calendar, Silverstone hosted the very first World Championship race back in 1950. Since then, elite talent has shone through at the track and home heroes are passionately supported, from the Mansell-mania days of the 1990s, through to Lewis Hamilton’s record-breaking nine wins at the track.
About Silverstone
Around 80 miles north west of London and straddled between two counties (Northamptonshire and Buckinghamshire), Silverstone is in a rural location, which can make getting to the track trickier than some other venues. Thankfully, access has been improved in recent years – though you should still expect traffic on race weekend, especially when leaving the circuit. Silverstone lies at the heart of Britain’s famed “motorsport valley”, which is home to many of the teams on the Formula 1 grid!
