Australian Grand Prix History

Melbourne’s picturesque Albert Park first hosted motor racing back in the 1950s – but it wasn’t until 1996 that Formula 1 first visited. Melbourne took over as host of the Australian Grand Prix from Adelaide, which had established the sport’s presence in the southern hemisphere in the 1980s. Combining high, medium, and low-speed corners with several overtaking areas, Albert Park is challenging for drivers and offers an excellent spectator experience for fans.
