Australian Grand Prix History
Melbourne’s picturesque Albert Park first hosted motor racing back in the 1950s – but it wasn’t until 1996 that Formula 1 first visited. Melbourne took over as host of the Australian Grand Prix from Adelaide, which had established the sport’s presence in the southern hemisphere in the 1980s.
