Why You Should Attend

Formula 1 is back in Portugal for the first time in six years! Portimão served up plenty of unpredictable racing and dramatic battles in its first two appearances on the calendar at the turn of the decade. Now is your opportunity to see F1’s return to the Algarve. Close to the historic coastal towns of Portimão and Lagos, the circuit is perfectly placed to combine your trip to the 2027 Portuguese Grand Prix with an extended holiday in the tourist-friendly Algarve region.

Where to Watch at Algarve International Circuit

With the previous two F1 races held with limited crowd numbers, 2027 will be the first full capacity Portuguese Grand Prix at Portimão. The circuit’s natural elevation changes, long acceleration zones and wide track layout create multiple racing lines and frequent side-by-side battles. Head to the North Grandstand (Bancada Meo) to see overtaking moves through the opening corners, or choose Grandstand Portimão, where the drivers will be pushing their cars to the limit during qualifying.

Portuguese Grand Prix History

The Portuguese Grand Prix has appeared on the F1 calendar 18 times in total, first taking place in Porto in 1958, before finding a more permanent home at Estoril for 13 successive seasons from 1984 to 1996. Estoril is famed as the scene of Ayrton Senna’s maiden Grand Prix victory in 1985 and the track at which Niki Lauda secured his third and final title in 1984 by just half a point – the smallest championship-winning margin in the sport’s history.

About Algarve International Circuit

Portimão, officially called Autódromo Internacional do Algarve (Algarve International Circuit), made its first appearance on the F1 calendar in 2020, when the Portuguese Grand Prix was revived amid the coronavirus pandemic after a 24-year hiatus. It made a second appearance in 2021, and will return in 2027 as part of an initial two-year contract. Lewis Hamilton won both races staged here to date, claiming a record-breaking 92nd F1 victory in 2020.
