Where to Watch at Interlagos

Choosing the right grandstand for race weekend at Interlagos is important, as there is no general admission access and you are only permitted within the vicinity of your grandstand. Grandstands M and B are located on the main straight and will offer views of the starting grid, and the teams’ garages. Grandstand D is a good option for seeing the usually chaotic action through the opening corners, while Grandstands A and G are cheaper, but are not covered and have bleacher style seating, rather than individual seats. The Heineken Village - located in the inner track on the hill in the final sector - is also worth checking out.

Brazilian Grand Prix History

The Brazilian Grand Prix first appeared on the Formula 1 calendar in 1973 at Interlagos and after a short trip to Rio de Janeiro during the 1980s, F1 returned to Sao Paulo in 1990 and Interlagos has staged the annual Brazilian race ever since. In the early 2000s, the circuit became renowned for final race title deciders, with Kimi Raikkonen defying the odds in 2007, Lewis Hamilton securing the honours on the last lap of the wet 2008 race and Sebastian Vettel overcoming adversity in similarly soggy conditions in 2012.

About Autódromo José Carlos Pace (Interlagos)

Literally meaning ‘between lakes’, the Interlagos circuit was built in the 1930s. It is located 25km south of downtown Sao Paulo, which is the largest urban area by population outside of Asia. A cultural and foodie haven, the city centre is the best place to base yourself for race weekend and the circuit can be reached by metro or taxi. F1’s race in Brazil has always been popular, with the passionate Paulistas heading to the track in their thousands.
