Why Silverstone Should Be On Your F1 Bucket List
Situated on the border of Northamptonshire and Buckinghamshire, Silverstone was built on the site of a World War II Royal Air Force bomber station, RAF Silverstone, and first hosted the British Grand Prix as far back as 1948.
Now considered one of the most famous racing circuits in the world, Silverstone has been a regular feature of the F1 calendar for over 75 years and is the third most visited track in Formula 1 history, with only Monaco and Monza having hosted more races.
Steeped in history at almost every turn, Silverstone hosted the first-ever official round of the Formula 1 World Championship back in 1950 and was also the venue for F1’s 70th Anniversary Grand Prix in 2020.
With several F1 teams headquartered close to the circuit and some of F1’s most notable drivers having originated from the UK, it’s easy to understand why the Silverstone crowd is considered one of the most passionate of all.
The crowd will be spoilt for choice with home drivers to support in 2026, with no fewer than five Brits on the grid. Lando Norris makes his first home appearance as reigning World Champion, the sport’s most successful driver Lewis Hamilton returns for yet another shot at Silverstone glory, George Russell will be in contention for home victory, rising star Ollie Bearman will be hoping for a strong showing with Haas and rookie Arvid Lindblad will make his maiden home race outing.
In addition to the on-track action, Silverstone is well known for its festival-like atmosphere, and will feature headline performances from the likes of David Guetta, Richard Ashcroft, Chase & Status and Rag’n’Bone Man in 2026. The 2026 British Grand Prix is one race you won’t want to miss!
